The Best Time to Plan Your Honeymoon, and It is NOT Right After the Wedding

The Best Time to Plan Your Honeymoon, and It is NOT Right After the Wedding

Let's talk honeymoon.

Picture this: you've just planned a whole wedding of your dreams, celebrated and partied hard. Now, hangover from the celebrations AND the stress of planning the wedding, you hop on a 17-hour red-eye flight for your honeymoon.

Yup, we did that, and honestly, we regretted it so much.

Here's why you might want to consider prioritising some post-wedding TLC, and plan for the honeymoon months, if not a year, after the wedding:

Double Planning

We were soooo tired for the next 5 days after our wedding.

Don't get me wrong, the wedding was amazing, but tacking on honeymoon planning on top was a recipe for burnout. At that point, I was DONE with planning. I didn't need another huge trip to plan.

You'll Feel Exhausted on Your Honeymoon

Weddings are magical, but let's be real, they're also marathons. Between photo taking, socialising, and keeping the party going, you barely have a moment to breathe. Looking back, I wish we'd planned enough time to recover and enjoy the newlywed bliss from the comfort of home.

Instead, I felt exhausted being on the road 12 hours a day during our honeymoon travels.

Honeymoon on a Tight Budget

Weddings aren't cheap. Our wallets were feeling a little thin by the time the honeymoon rolled around. That meant we did not want to splurge on the luxurious getaway we originally envisioned. I wished that we would have waited to save up more money to have a nicer honeymoon.

So if you're reading this, please don't feel pressured to follow the idea of having your honeymoon right-after-the-wedding.
