A Step-by-Step Guide to Your Offsite ROM Solemnisation Ceremony in Singapore

Update (April 2025 Relocation): The Registry of Marriages (ROM) and Registry of Muslim Marriages (ROMM) will be temporarily relocating to Esplanade Mall on 14 April 2025 to facilitate the redevelopment of their current premises at 7 Canning Rise. The new facility is set to reopen in 2028. Couples with existing appointments from 14 April 2025 onwards will be automatically scheduled at the new location.
You've chosen to get married at a special venue instead of the Registry of Marriages' (ROM) office in Fort Canning.
Great choice! This offsite solemnisation is a beautiful way to personalise your ceremony and create a lasting memory. But with the excitement comes the question: what exactly happens during the ceremony itself?
Let us walk you through the entire process, step-by-step.
Secure Your Venue
The most important thing is to book your solemnisation venue. It could be at the same location where you'll have your wedding banquet.
Here are two unique venues couples love for their offsite solemnisation:
- 🥂 The Blue Ginger – A romantic heritage shophouse with Peranakan charm, perfect for couples who want a cosy yet elegant ambience for their ceremony and banquet.
- 🍻 Little Island Brewing Co. – If you’re looking for something a little more relaxed and unexpected, this award-winning microbrewery offers a casual seaside atmosphere with craft beers, hearty food, and a surprisingly beautiful space for intimate solemnisation setups.
Book Your Solemniser
Once you have your date & venue finalised, make sure that you choose your solemniser. These are volunteers who officially pronounce you husband and wife.
What happens on the actual wedding day?
The day has finally arrived! We have a full, detailed description of what happens at your solemnisation, but here's a quick tldr:
- Welcome your solemniser. Assign a family member or friend to host the solemniser upon arrival and guide them to the ceremonial space.
- Solemniser will check the identity of bride, groom, and 2 witnesses. (Don't forget your NRIC/Passports.)
- Both of you will be asked to provide verbal consent to the marriage.
- If you wish, you can exchange vows. Here are some vow-writing tips and 50 sample vows to help you!
- Exchange rings and kiss the bride.
- Sign ceremonial certificate of marriage together with your solemniser and two witnesses.
- Solemniser will pronounce you husband and wife (and if ceremonial certificate of marriage is used, solemniser will hand over the duly signed ceremonial certificate to you).
The entire process will take around 15-30 minutes. Solemniser will then leave unless you have arranged otherwise.
After the ceremony, the solemniser will register your marriage with ROM. Within a week, you will receive digital copy of your official marriage certificate via email.
